Work programme
The project idea of developing micro-interventions to promote intercultural and diversity competencies is split into four work phases. Thereby, the first and fourth phase of the project are characterized by co-creation by the applicants of UOS and HOS. The second and third phases are characterized by cooperation and consultation in the specific development and application in each module context. Throughout the process, both parties represent continuous discussion partners in joint exchange.
The UOS is responsible for the presentation of the project in the context of the curators' meetings of the Lower Saxony Ministry of Science and Culture (MWK). The UOS curates the materials and makes them accessible on the OER portal.
The aim of the first phase is to develop a theoretical basis and a guiding framework model together by the applicants from the University of Osnabrück (UOS) and the Osnabrück University of Applied Sciences (HOS) with regard to the conception, realization and implementation of the micro-interventions. For this purpose, possible topics of the micro-interventions will be specified first. In this context, besides general intercultural awareness, specific topics from the field of intercultural competencies are relevant (e.g., intercultural communication, cooperation, negotiation). In addition, diversity-related areas such as promoting positive diversity attitudes, reducing faultlines (implicit boundaries in teams), and fostering a positive diversity climate are increasingly addressed. In the creation of the overall model and the identification of topics, special consideration is given to future labor market demands on students so that students are prepared for a successful future career. In the joint development of the didactic framework and design of the micro-interventions, the focus is on linking knowledge transfer with concrete digital learning and interaction experiences, as well as the application and transfer of the learning content to the students' own reality. Another task in this context is the adaptation of the didactic model to the special context of digital micro-interventions. The applicants of the UOS and HOS are supported in this process by a joint kick-off workshop with an external expert speaker in order to discuss the technical possibilities of the implementation of micro-interventions.
As a result of this phase, an overall concept for the specific development and implementation of the micro-interventions is jointly recorded. This overall concept serves as a framework for the next phase and is intended to ensure a standardized, equivalent quality and approach of the micro-interventions.
Following the overall concept of development, micro-interventions with a focus on intercultural competencies are being developed at UOS. The HOS is simultaneously developing micro-interventions with a focus on diversity competencies. During this phase, regular joint meetings are held to discuss and reflect on the status of the project. Through joint exchange, suggestions are developed and incorporated to develop successful micro-interventions. After completion of the micro-interventions, their effectiveness is pre-tested in focus groups with students from different disciplines. This will be followed by piloting in two seminars at UOS (Selected Topics in Intercultural Business Psychology) and HOS (Modules in Intercultural Business Psychology and Diversity Management). The results of the piloting will be used to adjust the micro-interventions before they enter the actual implementation phase.
The micro-interventions are used in teaching at the UOS and HOS. At UOS, they are used in the master's program in intercultural psychology in the module of intercultural business psychology and in the summer school "Intercultural Competencies". At HOS, the deployment takes place in the Bachelor's program in Business Psychology, among others, specifically in the modules of Intercultural Business Psychology and Diversity Management. In addition, other teachers will be identified as cooperation partners to use the micro-interventions in OER-based teaching. For this purpose, the micro-interventions will be publicized, used and evaluated university-wide.
The use of the micro-interventions in the courses and institutions described in phase 3 will be evaluated in cooperation with the Service Agency for Teaching Evaluation (UOS). The concept for the evaluation of digital teaching of the Service Agency Teaching Evaluation as well as evaluation concepts for online trainings from previous projects serve as a basis for the specific development of an evaluation concept for the micro-interventions. Relevant evaluation contents refer to the design, didactic aspects, thematic relevance and learning effectiveness. The evaluation is carried out by means of an online questionnaire with the support of the Service Agency Teaching Evaluation. The scientific research serves to ensure the quality and learning effectiveness of the micro-interventions prior to publication as OER.
