Vocational placement / practical phase of studies

8-week practice phase in horticulture or related fields, of which at least 4 weeks must be prior to commencing studies with 4 weeks during the degree program / for the practical work project (6th semester); at least 10 weeks of full-time employment in commercial horticulture, service horticulture, floristry, agriculture and forestry, trade with horticultural products, laboratory work in the LTA/BTA area.

Learning achievements / core competencies

 

  • Basic knowledge of the natural sciences, plant production sciences, and economics as used in commercial horticulture (production, research, and services, quality assurance) and in preproduction and post-production areas (supply industry, marketing)
  • Detailed knowledge of the horticultural value chain and the variety of open-air and protected production processes and their effects on the environment
  • Detailed knowledge of horticultural products and quality management
  • Advanced knowledge of project management acquired in practice-oriented projects
  • The ability to act with a problem-solving orientation
  • The ability to head horticultural operations

 

Specialization options

Starting in the 4th sem., specialization in at least one of the crop types tree nursery, vegetable gardening, orcharding, or floriculture in free, individually selectable combination with modules concerning the management of horticultural production factors and modules in horticultural economics - Supplementary study abroad program "Land usage in tropical and subtropical countries" with certificate and expanded options in the selection of other specialization modules.
