You have recently moved to Osnabrück and would like to get to know other international students and receive helpful information for a good start to your studies? Then be there!
The Center for International Students invites all international students of the first and second semester to a trail for a good start into their studies. Make your way through five stations and get to know your fellow international students on the run! In addition, you will receive some important information on Osnabrück University of Applied Sciences, and its culture. There will be a quiz on the city of Osnabrück, snacks and refreshments. Welcome to Osnabrück! When living and studying in Osnabrück, you need to register your new address at the City of Osnabrück. Since it usually takes months to schedule an appointment, we are cooperating with the Foreigner’s Office to make the process quicker and easier for you. Especially, when extending your visa you must attend this appointment even when you have classes on that day! Please tell your professor in advance that you have an appointment to register with the Foreigner’s Registration Office.
Please note that this appointment will take some time. You may also have some waiting time. Unfortunately, there is no better way to solve this but we appreciate your understanding!
For those of you, who are EU and NON-EU international students and have not registered the new place of residence, please bring your documents to the appointment with the Foreigner’s Registration Office on September 29, 2022!
- You have questions or are you unsure whether your documents are complete, or you have questions?
Then please come as early at 8.00 a.m. to room AC 0006 on Thursday on 29.09.2022, so that there is enough time to go through everything and clear all questions .
- You have prepared your documents and are absolutely sure that you have everything in order and ready, then you can join the appointment on 9.30 am in room AB 0112.
The Foreigner’s Office will join us at 9.30 am on that day.

First of all, we would like to give you some information about the procedure. For a successful registration with the City of Osnabrück, you will need the following documents:

- Registration form
- Please pick up your registration form at the office of Ms. Chapman (Room AB 0012 – Tue/Thu from 10am-12pm) or Ms. Maier (Room AB 0011 - Tues/Thu. 09:00am-4:00pm) in the AB building, ground floor at the area INTERNATIONALES.
Hint: We recorded a short video (in English) for you, that will help you to complete the form. If you do not know how to fill it in, or have questions, please do not hesitate to ask us during the Zoom-Meeting (see above!).

- Passport and copies
- Please make copies of your passport/ID card/current residence permit. Make sure to copy all pages with a stamp or visa.
- Landlord confirmation
- The landlord confirmation is necessary for your registration. If you have a room in our dormitories, you will receive the confirmation by mail from one of our colleagues from the Housing Service under: housing@hs-osnabrueck.de
- If you found your accommodation independently, please let your landlord fill in and sign the confirmation (attached to this email)

- Confirmation of enrolment
- Please print your enrolment certificate and attach it to your registration documents.
Hint: You can find the certificate, when you log in to the OSCA portal under “my documents”.
In case your current visa or residence permit does not cover your entire stay in Germany – or you have neither you will
need the following documents in addition to the documents mentioned above
- Proof of sufficient health insurance (we strongly recommend a German health insurance!) and
- Proof of sufficient funds (e.g. scholarship, blocked account, bank statements incl. monthly deposit of 861�)
Please prepare and bring your documents no later than September 29, 2022!
Depending on your current residence permit, there might be a further appointment on October 11, 2022 at 10:00 a.m. directly at the Foreigner’s Office where you will leave your fingerprints and pay the visa fee! We will inform you on September 29, whether you have to attend the follow-up appointment or not!

So you have obtained a study place. Are you interested in continuing to improve your German language skills? Then you should register for our assessment test in German as a foreign language. We offer German classes to students in English-taught programs who would like to improve their skills, but also to international students who would like to take their German to an even higher level or begin to learn the academic language of their subject field. This semester, the assessment test will take place 1.10.2021 at 10 a.m. in room AB 0019. To register for the test, please send an e-mail to b.buczkowski@hs-osnabrueck.de
If you have passed a C1 exam in order to fulfill the admission requirements, you do not need to participate in the asessment test, however, we need you to send us an e-mail and express your interest in a German language class.
To begin university level studies, is always difficult: new faces, lots of information to process, a new city, many formalities...it is easy to lose track. The Center for International Students would like to support you! We are offering a compact orientation in the winter semester 2021/2022 for international students from September 28th - October 1st, .2021.
We will introduce you to student service providers (e.g. LearningCenter, Psychological Counseling Center, Office of the Registrar, etc.), we'll explain some important aspects of German culture as well as university culture, we'll introduce you to the library system and good academic pratice. In addition, we'll talk about learning stiles and techniques, and define your role and duties as students. This way, you not only get to know many employees of the university, but also your fellow international students.
And what's really special about this seminar: Your two lecturers have their specialisation in German as a foreign language and will make absolutely sure that you understand every word of this orientation. By the way: there will be no exam at the end and no homework. Does that sound good?
