Camila Giterman from Argentina, study program landscape architecture
This is a summary of my exchange experience in Germany. I highly recommend doing it at the 凤凰体育 Osnabrück.
Osnabrück was the first city in which I was completely by myself. There were no uncles or parents to pave the road. I remember the moment I decided doing it and the moment when I was about to leave Argentina, all my feelings of anxiety and fear. As with any type of change you feel a little bit strange. Change from home, friends, language, food. These are all changes that anyone can believe that getting used to them is not easy. As an Argentinian girl making the decision to leave was a challenge in itself but at a certain point I realized the great commitment and support from the international department that made my fears disappear. With all the support, self confidence increased as time passed, thanks again to the international department for establishing a very permeable communication among teachers, students, mates and everyone.
Once there, friendship arrived fast, because of living in a "Studentenwohnheim" (student residence). German language was not easy for me at the beginning but thanks to the intensive course I took during the summer and regular classes during the semester it improved a lot.
During my time in Osnabrück I had a working experience, I took part in the ETC.la research project, had a semester full of great modules and above all I learned a new way of interpreting, understanding and living the landscape. I think this was the most interesting thing about the trip. The moment you are about take the plane back home, you realize that the most difficult obstacle to overcome is coming back.
Strong practical relevance
At the University of Applied Sciences Osnabrück teaching and research are oriented towards the requirements of ‘the real world ‘. This is also mirrored in the qualifications of the teaching staff who have at least 3 years of practical professional experience in addition to their academic-scientific qualification and their pedagogical education.
Skills for the job
The educational aim is to enable the students in their respective study program to achieve success in their future professional life. This includes not only training in different subjects, but also methodological and social skills. At the end of their studies the students are able to assert themselves flexibly and competently in the labor market even in a changing world. The project-orientated courses promote the practical and interdisciplinary skills demanded from the profession whilst developing key personal skills.
Practice-oriented research
Numerous research and development projects on practice-oriented issues have been carried out in the Faculty of Agricultural Sciences and Landscape Architecture for many years. The research activities are made possible by the well-equipped laboratories and experimental areas. However, a large number of projects are running outside the faculty in cooperation with other universities and enterprises. External research funds are secured both from state funding institutions and from companies. Both master students and PhD students are invited to contact us in order to find possibilities for research and projects.
Technology transfer - business cooperations
The knowledge and technology transfer takes place within the framework of a large number of co-operations with companies, public authorities and institutions from private industry. Participation in fairs, conferences and exhibitions makes it possible for the students to take up direct contact with the target groups of knowledge transfer.
Internationality
The University of Applied Sciences Osnabrück (凤凰体育 Osnabrück) is a university with a well-developed network of international co-ooperation.
Internationally oriented teaching in the form of regular courses and projects, summer universities, excursions and workshops abroad are highly rated at the Faculty of Agricultural Sciences and Landscape Architecture.
Modern facilities
The faculty provides experimental farms and other experimental sites which are located close to the campus. In addition to the lecture hall and computer rooms, the campus buildings also have a number of laboratories (e.g. botany, soil science, zoology, ecology, nature conservation, planting design, landscaping technology, plant breeding, plant protection, plant nutrition, soil protection and soil sanitation, surveying and geographical information systems) as well as an IT department with well-equipped computer rooms.
Beautiful campus
The lecture halls, seminar rooms, canteen and library are situated in a beautiful park-like campus at the outskirts of the city of Osnabrück. The teaching facilities for horticulture, agriculture, home economics and nutrition sciences, and landscape planning are situated at the same site. The campus facilities and student pubs in the city centre (15 min by bicycle or by public transport) give students ample opportunities for social exchange and parties.
